Bob has unfortunately passed away recently after serving the parish council for almost 50 years. Bob Eccles was a tireless 'powerhouse' of a councillor, he selflessly served with an almanac of knowledge, wisdom and passion for helping the community.
Bob is sorely missed, our thoughts go out to his family and all who knew him.

Having represented local residents along with Irene Waudby and Richard Moore on the development of the Armstrong Site, when I retired from work I considered that I could represent our local community a little more. What do like most about living in Rawcliffe? In '86 Rawcliffe was a reasonable commutable distance on the green outskirts. Then we could see right across the Recreation and Airfields to the wolds beyond but travelling to the A64 was a winding route through the city. The proximity of the recreation facilities and schools are now benefiting my grandchildren. What do you like least? The recent spate of vandalism in the area and the A1237 has become the slowest part of my journeys anywhere. Where's your favourite spot in North Yorkshire? Just 135ft from where I live, that's where my grandchildren live. In the late 1970's and throughout the 1980's I used to tutor young railway people on 15 mile hikes across the North York Moors from such places as Nunthorpe, Battersby Jct, Kildale, Commondale and Marske. Perhaps the funniest is near the summit of the M62 thats where Lancs and Yorks divide; my grandchildren hold their noses as we pass the Red Rose to enter Lancs and cheer as we pass the White Rose on our return journeys back to York.

Why did you become a parish councilor? I have always been involved in one way or the other in the community where I have lived and whilst working in the community i have encountered local residents that sometimes have problems/queries regarding the parish who have not got a loud enough voice and I would like to give them that voice. What do like most about living in Rawcliffe? One of my many favourite reasons for living in Rawcliffe is the sense of community. What do you like least? There is nothing I dislike about Rawcliffe it is the best place I have lived. Where's your favourite spot in North Yorkshire? The Castle Museum or Castle Howard.
